I learned a lot here. I want to mention everything. However,
ten pages will not be enough for my stories. But one of
the best things that I got here is I learn how to see
people. A big portrait of humanity. When I see people
from different cultural, national, religious, educational
background, I am able to see that the world is full of
diversity. The experience to learn not to judge people
by its cover. That whatever it is that looks bad in our
view is actually beautiful inside. I felt that. And learning
about friendship and appreciating people, really give
me a lot. Sometimes people are full of stereotype about
my religion. I felt it really hurtful sometimes. I would
like people to appreciate me and treat me fairly like
they treat others. Then I think, if I want people to appreciate
me, then I should appreciate them.

During my internship we need to travel from Daejeon University
to the work place. I experience the Korean working culture
where I have to wake early to work and also get to explore
myself to the work place. I need to take city bus and
also the subway to the work place. It taught me a lot
on how to be independent in a land that was totally new
to me. Besides that, it was a great opportunity for me
to learn about the working culture in the institutes.

My experience which I have learnt from this program is
various, so I can not point out the best one. One of my
best experiences is living, studying and doing many activities
with many foreign friends, who from different culture,
background, and different environment which always give
me new knowledge that can not be found in the book. What
I mean is I know much about foreign friends’ countries
real situations and the case of Korea, many things are
very new to me. And for sure, my another best experience
is studying every subject in English which quite hard
to me at the beginning, but really helpful to me as I
took English as one of my majors. But, I was gradually
accustomed to it and it’s not too hard to handle it. As
a result, my English skill in term of making report, long
report or even some presentations, including speaking
proficiency are getting better and better.

It's hard to decide what my best experience is, because
being here is already the great experience. But because
this is my first time living overseas, so now I know the
feeling of becoming foreigner, and it teaches me a lot.
There are so many differences between Korea and my country
so I have to compromise myself to be able to adapt with
Korean culture and all Korean life style. But still I
have to defense myself from the things that I am prohibited
to do. Living in other country shouldn't make me forget
and ignore the way I am as muslim. I do respect every
culture but I do have my own life rule. And living here
with many people from various countries enrich my point
of view of seeing many problems and phenomenons in this
world.

Apart from the academic aspects that have really sharpened
my skills, I say that merely living in DJU with 10 more
nationalities (Japanese and Chinese included), hearing
11 different stories, 11 unique life narrations said in
11 different languages, celebrating cultural differences,
transcending language and symbolic barriers—this one experience
has bought tons more to it that I could never have imagined.

a. Learning Korean Language. I never knew I will blend
so well in learning this language, kudos to my Korean
Language Professor!
b. All the trips around Korea! We won’t be able to travel
around Korea, even to North Korea without support from
AUN-DJU with all the financial support and also technical
supports.
c. All the friends (ASEAN, Koreans, Chinese, New Zealand,
USA) that I met here in Korea, they are the one made the
difference because learning everything I stated above
is not enough, but having to know them made a difference
during my stay in Korea.

Staying in Korea for almost a year, zeroing in one experience
to be the best is really difficult. However, I can say
that truly the best experience for me is having the chance
to go to Geumgansan, North Korea. I can say that it is
really a rare chance for us to travel there especially
being foreigners. It was cool, it could even be a great
conversation piece, but what I got from the experience
is really beyond that. First of all, it showed me the
great commitment of Daejeon University to do their best
for us. It was probably even out of their plans, but they
still did all the arrangements to allow us to come. During
the trip they were also very accommodating and welcomed
us in their group and there I felt that I was really a
part of the community and in spite of our differences,
between or among us, we still enjoyed our time and supported
each other.
Also, I have become more aware of the issues surrounding
my host country and its domestic matters. I feel that
although Korea is separated on more explicit terms, each
country also experiences some division of their own, one
way or the other. And so, what I thought which was very
inspiring is that despite this, South Korea is making
efforts in having good relations between them. Not out
of guilt or whatsoever, but of the genuine desire to give
their brothers a better life. It really opened my eyes
because I thought that these two areas are extremely separatists,
but having this experience, it showed me that there is
hope for them to unite and more than that work together
as one. Of course, it will certainly not be an easy road.
But I believe enough in the Korean people that they will
be able to achieve this in time.
So, I may extend this observation to my personal relationships
and even to the greater ones created between nations such
as the ASEAN. The Koreans were a good model in showing
that we should not stop reaching out and that concrete
steps are also needed. We should begin by understanding
eachother, having a shared vision, making programs and
plans that can make both parties to work together, and
from there can make things possible.

There are so many good experiences you have leant from
this program. One of the best I got is the independence
in living, organizing my schedule and traveling. I might
be talking about my amazing summer vacation later but
it gave me a lot of experience about communicating and
living together with foreign friends. The time staying
with my roommate also is giving knowledge to adapt with
new culture, new habits, new religion custom and various
human behaviors I have never faced up before.
More importantly, according to our group work, discussion
with Professors in DJU and among ASEAN friends, I was
learnt many skills from them, such as presentation, schedule
organizing, group discussing and information searching.
With my Professors, I learnt big lessons from the lectures
which might be significant to improve me in coming time.
Do you have any plan to utilize
what you have learned and experienced from this program?

I’m planning to further my study in Korean language,
and I’ve even been offered to try a space-industry related
company in the future for a career. It’s all thanks to

I plan to write a book about Korean culture as the books
available in Thailand now are not update at all and Thai
people know Korea only entertainment industry, so I think
it might be go to do that, but I am not quite sure weather
it can be accomplished or not.
And I plan to take more subjects related to international
topic, such as understating Europe and ASEAN culture,
and Economy class.
Moreover, this program changes me to be more confident.
I learned lots of thing about Korea, but I just realize
that I know nothing about my country. Now, I want to know
more and learn more about what our government is doing,
how the situation of Thai stock market is, and how foreigners
think about Thailand.
After going back, I plan to travel more in Thailand and
go to visit our ASEAN friends in their countries also.

Planning to utilize these I have learnt and received
from AUN and DJU is certainly what I have been thinking
now. As many of my friends desired, I’m planning to come
back to Korea in several years under a scholarship program
and I might possibly work for a Korean company. However,
the things I got from AUN is not only something engaged
with Korea but also my far dream which are Master of Business
Administration in a developed country. And also, the friendship
of ASEAN students will motivate me to do everything confidently.
I hope that I would a chance to work oversea and get more
experience to open a company in my country in the far
future.

Yes I do have the intention of taking advantage of my
experience in Korea and applying it to my future endeavors.
I have considered doing a comparative thesis on Korea
and Singapore in my final year as Sociology major upon
my return to Singapore. I have also considered the potential
of extending my career options to Korea. Korea has a fast
expanding market and has a huge potential, I feel that
my stay here in Korea have enhanced my opportunities to
be able to take advantage of this expanding market in
the near future for academic, career, and business opportunities.

so I think it wouldn’t be that hard for me to come here
again.

I planed before came to Korea that I will to write about
Korean lifestyle in Thai magazine. I believe nowadays
publishing industry of Thailand quite lake information
about Korea. Nevertheless, Thai people who interested
in Korea increase more and more. Therefore, I decided
to share my stories in publisher that I think they are
useful for everyone. Moreover, I hope my articles will
stimulate Thai teenaged to be ambitious to come to Korea
by scholarship likes me.
