ASEAN-ROK Academic Exchange Programme
The AUN has been cooperating with the Korean Association
for Southeast Asian Studies (KASEAS) under the ASEAN-ROK Academic
Exchange Programme.
Aim:
To promote a new regional identity and solidarity
of East Asia by establishing the academic communities of ASEAN
and Korea providing opportunities for mutual communication and
collaboration .
Activities:
This reoccurring programme composes of five activities
namely; Preparation Workshop,
Academic Conference, Roundtable Meeting, Exchange Fellowship,
and Joint Research. Firstly, the Preparation Workshop aimed to
outline and schedule overall work plans for other activities in
each Programme.
The Programme of Exchange
Fellowship provides scholarships
(3weeks to 6 months) for students and scholars in various fields
to conduct researches aiming at the construction of ASEAN-Korea
Solidarity. The awardees are required to submit the final report
of research work three months after they return to their home
countries.
Distinguished ASEAN and Korea scholars are selected
to work together under Joint Research
Programme . The outcome of research work will be published
in book form, and distributed to universities, academic institutions
and relevant government agencies.
Scholars and researchers from Southeast Asia and
Korea are invited to present paper under the set themes at Academic
Conference . The themes of the Conferences are various
depending upon regional circumstances. After the Conference, all
the paper presented are edited and published in the form of proceeding.
Past Activities:
The 2005 Programme, comprises of Exchange Fellowship
Programme and Preparation Workshop, started off with the announcement
to accept the application for Exchange Fellowship Programme in
June 2005. 6 ASEAN researchers were granted to conduct their researches
in the Republic of Korea and completed their research papers in
August 2006.
From 1999 and 2001 Programme;
- 2 academic conferences were held under the topic
“Economic Crisis in Southeast Asia and Korea : Its social,
Political and Cultural Impacts” (2000), and “Regional
Cooperation and Identity Building in East Asia in the Age of Post-Cold
War Globalization” (2004).
- 18 ASEAN scholars were granted to conduct their researchs in
the Republic of Korea under Exchange Fellowship
Programme. The result of their researchs was published in a proceeding
and book titled “Update on ASEAN and Korean Studies”.
- 24 distinguished scholars of ASEAN and Korea participated in
the Joint Research Programme. They published 2 publications entitled
“Human Resources Development and Training in Korea-ASEAN
Countries” and “Relations between Southeast Asia and
Korea in the Past.”
- The data on ASEAN and Korean Studies were collected, analyzed
and presented under “The Survey and Roundtable Meeting in
ASEAN and Korean Studies.”
Ongoing Activities:
The 2006 Programme, comprises of Exchange Fellowship
Programme, Workshop and Conference and Scholarship for Master
Degree in Korean Studies. The application of the Exchange Fellowship
Programme was announced in November 2006 with the deadline for
the application submission is on 16 February 2007.
The AUN in coolaboration with KASEAS are going
to organize the Korea-ASEAN Academic Conference on Information
Revolution and Cultural Integration in East Asia, scheduled to
take place on 25-26 January 2007 in Ho Chi Minh City, Viet Nam.
